Pawned Halo – my latest song!

Written by:

Dedicated to Fallen Angels Wherever You May Be

Verse 1

There’s a pawn shop glowing off Highway 9,
Neon cross flickering, fighting the night.
A stranger walked in with rain on his coat,
And the shadow of wings that nobody noticed.
He laid a halo down on the scratched-up glass,
Like he was saying goodbye to his past.

Pre-Chorus

The old man asked, “Son, what’s your need?”
He said, “Just enough to make it through the week.”
His voice was low, tired and hollow,
Like he’d carried forever too far to follow.

Chorus

Lord, I watched an angel pawn his halo,
Laid that ring of gold on a countertop of sorrow.
Traded holy light for a handful of bills,
Trying to keep a broken heart beating still.
There ain’t no judgment in my soul, I know—
Most of us would’ve pawned that halo long ago.

Verse 2

He poured black coffee on a graveyard shift,
Serving folks life hadn’t managed to fix.
A little boy asked why his eyes shined gold,
He smiled and said, “That’s just getting old.”
Then he swept the floor when the night moved on,
Missing the stars he’d once belonged among.

Pre-Chorus

Every night he’d lock that diner door,
Searching the sky like he was looking for more.
But the heavens stayed silent and the moon hung low,
Like an old friend with nowhere left to go.

Rap Verse

Maybe falling ain’t fire and chains,
Maybe it’s loss and ordinary pain.
Maybe it’s remembering rivers of light,
While working double shifts every night.
I saw that angel lay his glory down,
And choose love over a golden crown.

Bridge

One night I asked what he missed the most.
He said, “Not the glory, not the hosts.”
Then he stared where the dark road ran—
“I miss knowing God’s whole plan.”

Final Chorus

Lord, I watched an angel pawn his halo,
Laid that ring of gold on a countertop of sorrow.
Traded holy light for a handful of bills,
Trying to keep a broken heart beating still.
But if love’s the measure of a soul,
That angel never lost his halo.

Outro

That pawn shop still glows off Highway 9,
Neon cross flickering through the night.
And sometimes when the rain falls slow,
I swear I see him through the window.
Not buying back the gold he sold—
Just learning to shine without the gold.
