Brothers and sisters, gather close and hear me plain. The Lord’s been stirring my spirit like a wind through dry cornfields, showing me how quick we are to judge and how slow we are to listen. This morning, the Word comes not just spoken, but sung, so it can settle deep in your bones.
Verse 1
There’s a man on the edge of a gravel road,
Boots worn thin from carrying loads,
You see him pass and you shake your head,
But you don’t know the prayers he’s never said.
The Lord showed me his sleepless nights,
Bills on the table, faith in a fight,
Hear the word now, don’t turn away,
You don’t know the cross he lifts each day.
Chorus
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes,
Feel the dust, feel the bruise,
Before you point fingers, before you choose,
I tell you the truth, that’s holy ground you’re standing on too.
Love sees farther than me-and-you,
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes.
Verse 2
There’s a mama at the diner pouring coffee slow,
Smiles real wide but her heart’s real low,
Kids at home and a dream on hold,
Praying God still hears the bold.
Thus saith the Lord, don’t miss her tears,
They fall like rain we don’t ever hear,
Compassion’s the language heaven speaks,
When the strong bow low to the weak.
Chorus
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes,
Feel the dust, feel the bruise,
Before you point fingers, before you choose,
I tell you the truth, that’s holy ground you’re standing on too.
Love sees farther than me-and-you,
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes.
Verse 3
There’s a boy in town with a restless soul,
Trying to be brave but feeling broke,
You call him lost, you call him wrong,
But the Lord says child, just hold on.
Hear the word, mercy’s not earned,
It’s a fire that’s freely burned,
Grace don’t care where you’ve been,
It just opens the door and pulls you in.
Chorus
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes,
Feel the dust, feel the bruise,
Before you point fingers, before you choose,
I tell you the truth, that’s holy ground you’re standing on too.
Love sees farther than me-and-you,
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes.
Verse 4
I tell you the truth from this wooden stand,
We’re all just sinners with calloused hands,
Different stories, same deep need,
For a little grace and room to breathe.
The Lord showed me, plain and clear,
Empathy’s the sound heaven hears,
When we love like Christ loved first,
We quench this world’s deepest thirst.
Final Chorus
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes,
Feel the dust, feel the bruise,
Lay your pride down, let love choose,
Thus saith the Lord, that’s the gospel truth.
We’re more alike than we ever knew,
Walk a mile in another man’s shoes.
